Transportation Advisors Wanted

From the Planning Department's weekly report:

Have a special interest or expertise in transportation and want to serve your community? Let us know! Mayor Warren is establishing a new Transportation Advisory Committee and Newton residents are needed to assess the City’s accommodations for all modes of transportation including bicyclists, pedestrians, transit users, and motorists and will recommend ways to improve the infrastructure for all ages and abilities. For more information, please contact Andrew Warner, Community Outreach Coordinator, at 617-796-1103 or email your resume and/or letter of interest to awarner@newtonma.gov by June 11, 2010

My understanding is that the June 11 deadline has been extended at least through next week.

Yes, the deadline is extended through this week (around Friday June 25). The group needs Newton residents who aren't necesssarily experts or activists but use the city's sidewalks and streets and transit facilities and who live and/or work throughout its villages. I am a Newton resident who hasn't previously been involved in either city commissions or advocacy groups but care deeply about our transportation future. I am hoping others like me will volunteer as well.
