What a stunning denunciation of the state of our transit system that we are leasing trains from Maryland, just to keep things afloat. Maryland's investment in its system is so much better than ours that their surplus markedly upgrades our regular fleet.
Really, really deplorable.

Their investment is better than ours? One of the most laughable things Ive ever seen. Go look at their commuter rail schedule and get back to me on that.
Protip: Try riding a train on the weekend.
Why do ALL these Gov't Agencies do nothing (Thats right ALL & NOTHING) until the tunnel collapses, the trains stop running, or the lights fall down

In defense of the MBTA, this is sometimes what they have to do to stretch an old fleet until a new one arrives, and they probably need to match the equipment to avoid further costs. This doesn't necessarily mean Maryland turns their fleet over regularly, just that their last purchase cycle hit 20 years later than ours.
and if it makes you feel any better, the MBTA has sold its old equipment to systems perhaps even worse off. Many of the old Boeing cars went to a compatible fleet in San Francisco a while back.
