New lines on the street at the corner of Beacon and Herrick signal some changes to the intersection:
What they signal is a big road diet at the corner, which will shorten the crosswalk, lower speeds around the corner, and make the first parking space a protected one. Here's a better idea of what's to come (click for a bigger version):

Congratulations, Sean, on your latest achievement! One question is if there is a car parked on Herrick Road, can two cars safely pass each other on Herrick? Or is the remaining space not wide enough and it's designed to slow one or the other car down?
Herrick is a one way away from the direction of the cameraman in Sean's second photo. Now issue for 2 way traffic.
I would like to say, nice work on the proper address, most people think that is the beginning of Union St, just as they also forget that Parker doesn't actually intersect Centre.
On topic, I love the idea of slowing northbound Centre St traffic turning on to Herrick.
sorry I meant two cars going southeast on Herrick, obviously in the same direction. Will it be as tight a squeeze as Herrick going up the hill over the Riverside Trolley line when there is a car parked on the west side? Also, is there some centralized publically accessible database of all the projects like this being planned in different parts of Newton? It would be great to have more information on where road diets, etc., are being planned by the city.
Hi, Eric. Any answers or information about where else similar projects are being planned in the city and how the public can evaluate and weigh in on them??
@Anon.
Sorry for the delay in responding, I'm only a semi-regular visitor here. I'm a city employee, but not with the DPW or city hall, I'm not sure if the have those records or plan available to the public. Quite honestly, Sean is more plugged in to that kind of information, and this blog is my source for upcoming info on most of these projects.
That's super, Eric. We'll look forward to hearing from Sean what else he's now cooking up to calm traffic around Newton. Thanks for getting back to the blog followers and explaining how this process works.
Uh, 80 days or so later and we are still waiting for a response on what we will be blessed to experience next, where, by way of traffic and biking 'improvements' supported by tax-paying voters .... and also illumination on what is the process and who is in charge. Mayor Warren, are you now in control of these people??
